School Centenary Garden

Manor School Sports College, Raunds, Northamptonshire 1914-2014

Designer: Elaine Christian

The garden was built by ex student Matt Johnson who now works for himself as a landscaper - Johnson's Landscape Design. A group of 15 students and staff were involved in the development of the garden from seed sowing through to planting and now maintenance and future development. The students also decided that as we were celebrating 100 years of our school, we should use the current and former school badges as designs for bedding. Although this proved a little challenging, the colours and patterns created through the use of the plants used helped to distinguish the basic differences in design. Planting in the main raised beds was made possible through generous donations of plants from individuals and also through money to buy plants. Former students, employees, parents, members of the community and current students and staff contributed to the sponsor a plant scheme.

Future plans for the garden include adding bulbs for all year round colour and re-planting the diamond shape beds once the summer display has finished. We also aim to continue to introduce other plants and look forward to future seed sowing and propagation.
